Q1. What is the difference between CyBlock Appliance and CyBlock Proxy?
A1. The main difference between the products is that CyBlock Appliance is a hardware solution that is placed "in-line" in your network and CyBlock Proxy is a software solution. Both products filter and report on Web (HTTP) traffic; however, CyBlock Appliance also filters and monitors on protocols, i.e., IM, P2P, Email, Streaming and more.
Q2. How does the CyBlock Appliance block protocols?
A2. When placed "in-line" in your network, the appliance sees all traffic flowing through it, including protocol traffic such as FTP or BitTorrent. Accordingly, the CyBlock Appliance will filter protocol traffic based on the filter policies you create. Included with every CyBlock Appliance is the CyBlock Client piece, which gathers identifiable usernames from the protocol traffic. This allows administrators to set up policies by username (not just IP address) and to see actual usernames in CyBlock Appliance's real-time Web and Protocol monitors.
Q3. What protocols does CyBlock Appliance block?
A3. The list of protocols and applications that the appliance filters continuously grows. Some popular protocols and applications include: FTP, Email, Instant Messaging (AOL, Yahoo, MSN, etc), P2P File Sharing, BitTorrent, PC Anywhere, SSH and more.
Q4. Can different filtering policies be created for different users or groups?
A4. Yes. Different Web and protocol policies can be created for groups and individual users. Administrators can customize CyBlock Appliance to fit their acceptable use policy whether they have a universal policy or multiple policies for different groups. A VIP group is also included in the CyBlock Appliance core grouping structure, and IDs placed in this group will not show up on any reports. By default, this group is assigned "Allow All" filtering policies (but that, too, is completely configurable).
Q5. How is CyBlock Appliance priced, i.e., is it subscription-based, priced "per seat," etc.?
A5. CyBlock Appliance is a licensed, subscription-based hardware product. Pricing is tiered, based on the number of people ("non-concurrent users") to be monitored. Get a price quote and more information about the CyBlock Appliance today.
Q6. Does CyBlock Appliance come with a warranty?
A6. Yes. CyBlock Appliance is under warranty for the first year from the shipping date. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and hardware failure. After the first year, you can choose to renew the warranty with our Quick Replacement plan.
Q7. What is your return policy?
A7. Wavecrest Computing offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee from the shipping date on its hardware products. If you return the product within 30 days, a credit or a refund of the purchase price paid (less shipping and handling and any applicable restocking fees) will be given. Any product returned to Wavecrest Computing without prior authorization from Wavecrest Computing will be considered an unauthorized return, and you will not receive credit for the product.
Q8. Where does the CyBlock Appliance fit into my network?
A8. Ideally, the CyBlock Appliance is designed to fit "in-line" in your network, behind your firewall or Internet connection. In this location, it transparently sees all traffic passing through it and can filter protocol and HTTP Web traffic. Alternatively, the appliance can also be set up like another computer on your network almost anywhere, becoming an HTTP Web proxy at that location (it cannot block protocols in that scenario). Read more about CyBlock Appliance's network configuration.
Q9. What logging, monitoring and filtering features come with the CyBlock Appliance?
A9. The CyBlock Appliance can log both HTTP Web traffic and protocol traffic to separate files off-box. An installation of Cyfin Reporter is included with the appliance to handle reporting duties. The appliance interface has a Web Monitor and a Protocol Monitor, so administrators can view "real-time" traffic, and both may be used simultaneously. The appliance can monitor and filter HTTP Web traffic, Web content types (file extensions, etc) and specific applications and protocols (such as Instant Messaging, P2P File Sharing, Email, etc).
Q10. Can CyBlock Appliance be remotely administered?
A10. Yes. It can be administered from a separate, remotely-located client computer using CyBlock's browser interface.
Q11. How current are your URL list updates and protocol updates?
A11. The URL and protocol list is updated every day by our list technicians and is 100% human reviewed. You can either schedule a daily list download or download the list manually.
Q12. Does the CyBlock Appliance act as a firewall?
A12. No. The CyBlock Appliance is not a firewall, and it should be placed behind an existing one if present. The appliance is a pass-through device which can monitor and filter all Internet traffic flowing through it, based on the policies you define.
